Who we are. andy

Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Counsellor. Trauma Specialist.

The wide range of my life experience is reflected in the diversity of the people who come to see me for assistance with their problems and in the diversity of their reasons for seeking help.

My particular field of interest is helping men and women who have experience of violence. For many years I worked in the voluntary sector counselling people who have been affected by traumatic crime, including domestic violence and abuse and I have additional experience of helping people who have lived with the chaos of war. I am a registered trauma specialist.

Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Counsellor

I am a qualified Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist providing once weekly therapy either for a short term or in an open ended arrangement. I offer a place to talk where an increased sense of self-awareness can be developed, giving greater control over actions and behaviour.

I have extensive one to one experience in a number of environments supporting children and adults who struggle with a sense of being alone with their emotional challenges. I specialise in working with substance misuse and with the effects of trauma on young people especially within Black and Ethnic Minority communities.

Psychodynamic Psychotherapist

I am a qualified and experienced Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Counsellor. This means that I am interested in trying to understand current struggles in the context of the individual’s life, both past and present. Alongside my clients, I work creatively and collaboratively so that we may together try and understand their current struggles. I am able to offer both ongoing therapy or time-limited, goal focused psychotherapy. In addition to this, I am able to provide CBT interventions for both anxiety and depression.

I have been fortunate to work, for some years, for the leading mental health charity, Mind. During this time, I have worked with a wide variety of people. What never ceases to amaze me is the resilience of the human spirit ; with the right intervention and support, I believe it is possible to bring about positive change in life.

I also have experience of working with people in recovery from drug and alcohol abuse, who are keen to derive more meaning from their lives as they overcome addiction. Another area of interest is in working with people who have attended boarding school and understanding the impact of this experience on peoples’ development and ways of relating.

Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor

I am a qualified integrative psychotherapist and counsellor. This means that I have knowledge of a number of different approaches to therapy, and use these to meet the individual needs of my clients. In particular, I draw on contemporary psychoanalysis, attachment theory and theories of the body in psychotherapy. My training and qualification were at The Minster Centre, a leading institute for integrative psychotherapy.

Overall my interest is in helping people to deeply know and understand themselves, and in turn to lead the lives they want. I support my clients in working through life’s challenges, and have particular experience in helping with loss, loneliness and difficulty in relationship. I firmly believe that therapy should be an experience of kindness and acceptance, and these principles are at the heart of my work.

Before becoming a psychotherapist I worked for a large company. I have a good understanding of the stresses and strains of corporate life and of work within other large organisations.

Sessions can run on an open-ended basis or for an agreed number of weeks or months. They can be in person, online, by phone or a combination.

To contact me please email me or call 07940 951945. All calls and messages are treated as confidential.
